At the foot of Mount Vulture, on the edge of the ancient village of Venosa, stands Regio Cantina, immersed in the greenery of uncontaminated Basilicata. The 15 hectares of vineyards of the estate spread over a unique layer of land: the lush scenery of Mount Vulture. The ancient volcano rises on the plateau and like a father watches over the valleys below, giving them an exceptional terroir, so much so that this area is unique in the entire Mediterranean quadrant.
The fruit of the Regio Cantina vineyards is the exquisite Aglianico del Vulture, one of the greatest excellences in the Italian wine horizon. The handkerchief of land that encloses the Lucanian denomination perfectly interprets the company philosophy that exalts the combination of 'one vine - one territory'. The estate has embraced a green line that is reflected in the choice of traditional methods and sustainable viticulture. Each plant of the estate, grown organically, receives meticulous attention, so that it grows healthy and robust. However, Regio Cantina has also been able to arm itself with the most modern winemaking techniques, with an eye on the avant-garde. Passion, tenacity, love for the land and its products are the coordinates within which Regio Cantina moves, whose wines are modern interpreters of the territory.
Vineyards
The estate's vineyards are located 380 meters above sea level, covering an area of 15 hectares. The favorable position of the vineyards, the quality of the soil, the lava nature of the soil and subsoil offer a generous fruit and contribute to producing a wine with unique characteristics.
The grapes come from four different plots, planted exclusively with Aglianico vines aged between 15 and 20 years, in an organic regime. The late harvest of the grapes, between October and November, allows Regio Cantina to boast the last harvest in Italy.
Terrain and microclimate
The Vulture volcano dominates the plateau with its 1300 meters of height. For centuries, its lava flows have shaped the surrounding territory, merging with the soil rich in clay, calcium and tuff. The result is a kaleidoscope of sediments that gives a delicate mineral and savoury reminiscence to the wines of Regio Cantina.
The continental climate is crossed by harsh winters and hot summers. The strong temperature variations mark the rhythms of the Vulture territory, helping to forge a unique terroir.
