The St. Magdalener is our entry point into the world of our red wines. It's something very special and means a lot to us. It was a long time ago, in 1968, when it was the first wine that Christian's father, Heinrich Plattner, bottled and sold himself. Back then, it cost 500 lire per bottle.
That was the beginning of Ansitz Waldgries as a modern, future-oriented winery.
Today, more than 50 years later, the St. Magdalener is liquid history for us.
It has accompanied the history of our winery, accompanied us all these years, and is more relevant today than ever. With its freshness, fruitiness, and approachability, it pairs perfectly with modern, light cuisine.
At the same time, it represents South Tyrol and its traditional and innovative dishes like no other wine.
Christian Plattner likes to call the St. Magdalener our welcome wine.
When you hold a bottle in your hands, pay attention to the label.
It shows our winery, with the gates wide open.
